Rapist gets 80 Years in Prison (the Sentence Seems a Little Light)…

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) — DA Charme Allen’s Child Abuse Unit obtained convictions against a man who impregnated a child twice, once when she was 10 and once when she was 11.

Trendell Ray Brady, 34, was convicted of two counts of rape of a child. On Thursday, prosecutors sought and obtained the maximum penalty, 80 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors said that starting in 2003 when the victim was 7 years old, Brady started dating a family member and occasionally babysat for the victim and her siblings.

Officials said Brady molested and sexually assaulted the victim, resulting in the victim’s pregnancy when she was 10 years old. Fetal evidence matched Brady. Months later, when the victim was 11 years old, she became pregnant again with DNA evidence showing Brady as the father.

Authorities were eventually alerted, and Brady admitted to investigators with the Knoxville Police Department that he had sex with the child. During the trial, the DA’s office said Brady tried to blame his twin brother, but the jury found otherwise.

“There are not enough years in prison Brady can serve to repair the damage that has been done,” said DA Charme Allen.

Each count of rape of a child carries a punishment between 25 and 40 years. Prosecutors plan to ask for the maximum sentence on each count and to run the sentences consecutive to each other for a total effective sentence of 80 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

The jury also assessed fines totaling $100,000.
