South Africa: “I’m tired of eating humans”…

Pietermaritzburg – “I am tired of eating human flesh.”

That is allegedly what a man told Estcourt police on Friday, before he handed them human body parts.

Three suspects are expected to appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday for being in possession of human remains.

The three were arrested on Friday night, said spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele.

She said one of the suspects had walked into the Estcourt police station and made the admission to police officers on duty.

“When he was questioned, he produced part of a human leg and a hand. Further investigation led police to a house in the Rensburgdrift area in Estcourt where police were met with a foul smell, and more human remains were found.

“A second suspect was also arrested in Estcourt. A third suspect, also an nyanga, was arrested in Amangwe area. More body parts were found.

Raped, killed, cut up the body

“It is alleged that the suspects raped, killed and cut up the body of a woman, which they then consumed. The allegations by the suspect are that they would rape and kill the victims before they could cut them into pieces and eat their parts,” said Mbhele.

She said police were still investigating if there are other people who had died at the hands of the suspects.

“We urge those who have family relatives missing to come forward so that samples can be taken to perform DNA tests,” she said.

A source said there were suspicions that the three may have violated graves as well.

“They face rape, murder and charges relating to possession of human tissue,” said Mbhele.

Ward councillor Mthembeni Majola said he could not believe his eyes when one of the suspects led community members and police to where the body of a woman was buried.

“It was buried under big rocks and we had to call a TLB machine to remove the rocks. They showed us the body parts in one of the houses. They admitted that they were waiting for the body parts to attract maggots. Apparently maggots collect money for them.”

He said a community meeting had been called for Monday.

“There had been a lot of rumours that foreign nationals were the ones killing people. None of those arrested is a foreign national. As community members we need to discuss how we are going to deal with this. We have also called izinyanga to the meeting. They need to distance themselves from this,” he said.

Majola said the meeting will be held at Esigodlweni community hall.

It’s not just these freaks…the whole neighborhood was munchin out on people…

Later, ward councillor Mthembeni Majola, who held a meeting at the Esigodlweni community hall on Monday morning, said that around 300 residents had confessed to visiting Mbatha, an nyanga, and knowingly eating human flesh that he gave to them.

He said that there were around 700 people at the meeting where about 300 residents confessed to allegedly knowing Mbatha had human flesh and allegedly confessed to eating it.

Majola alleged that Mbatha had been a practising nyanga in Ladysmith before he fled to Rensburgdrift earlier this year as the Ladysmith community had allegedly attacked and killed another nyanga in the area, however, this could not be confirmed.

“We don’t know what to do or who to trust,” said Majola.

‘People we know and live with have now confessed to eating this woman’

“This has happened within our community. Families, people we know and live with have now confessed to eating this woman,” he said.

He added that community members had also allegedly confessed to digging up graves under Mbatha’s orders, and giving Mbatha the bones.

Majola said the community had said at the meeting that the nyanga had told them that digging up the graves would make them strong and protect them from harm and that bringing him the bones would bring them wealth in the future.

Colonel Mbhele said that the provincial Occult-Related Crime Unit was investigating the matter.
