A police community support officer raped and sexually assaulted women he met while investigating crimes, a court heard today.
Orhan Yigit, 44, paraded naked in front of a victim of domestic violence, asked her for sexual favours in return for help to escape her marriage and forced her into a sex act on the marital bed, a jury was told.
Another married mother who innocently answered the door to him dressed in a nightie was ‘cuddled’, kissed on the shoulder and inappropriately touched by the PCSO.
A third woman he met during house-to-house inquiries into the theft of roof tiles ended up having a sexual relationship with him after he discovered she had a troubled personal background by doing illegal checks on the police computer, Leeds Crown Court heard.
Ian Brook, prosecuting, said: ‘He seems to have gone about his affairs almost like a modern-day lothario.’
Yigit denies rape, two counts of sexual assault and two of misconduct in public office. He has pleaded guilty to a third offence of misconduct in public office for misusing the police computer.
Mr Brook said the West Yorkshire PCSO knew the first victim’s husband and visited the house over a five-year period on the excuse of watching for drug dealing.
The married father of two was aware she was beaten by her husband, yet took advantage of her ‘desperate’ situation to pursue sexual favours, the jury heard. Mr Brook said Yigit made an excuse to go into her bedroom and told her: ‘If you do me favours, I will do you a favour.’ He told her that in return for her ‘favours’ he would find her a place in a ‘nice refuge’ to escape her brutal husband.
The woman told police he ‘gently’ pushed her on to the bed and asked her to perform a sex act on him. Yigit dropped his trousers and took the woman’s jumper off before asking her: ‘How desperate are you to get out?’
The jury was told she ‘froze’ and the officer forced her into performing a sex act in such a way that it amounted to an offence of rape.
On another occasion Yigit was allowed into the house for a drink while guarding a crime scene. He went to the toilet and walked into the living room naked.
The woman told police she laughed at him and said: ‘For God’s sake go get your ******* clothes on!’ He also visited one day and allegedly kissed her passionately against the living room wall. She bit his tongue to end what the prosecution said was a sexual assault.
Yigit is said to have sexually assaulted another woman in April last year after he knocked on her door to investigate the theft of her vehicle. Mr Brook said she was wearing a nightie, but it was ‘nothing kinky or revealing’.
The court heard he was friendly and gave her a ‘cuddle’ when she became ‘emotional.’ The PCSO put his hand ‘inside the straps of her nightie and touched her shoulders and started rubbing her’.
Later, in the kitchen, he cuddled her again, moved his pelvis against her and kissed her shoulder, remarking on her ‘soft skin’. She felt ‘really intimidated’.
Yigit also befriended Sharon Helliwell, whom he met while investigating a theft in her street, and they went on to have a sexual relationship. He checked her out on the police computer.
He later told police the first victim was obsessed with him and made false complaints in revenge for his lack of interest. He admitted touching the nightie woman’s shoulder but said he was simply ‘tactile’. The case continues.
