CCP Holder Kills Robber in Chicago…

A concealed carry license holder told police he fatally shot a man who tried to rob him at gunpoint Thursday night in a South Side business parking lot, according to authorities.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. in a parking lot shared by Target and Fifth Third Bank in the 1900 block of West 33rd Street in McKinley Park, police said.

Officers found a 21-year-old man lying on the ground after responding to a call of a person shot, according to preliminary information from a source. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the back and chest and pronounced dead, police said.

Witnesses told police a silver Nissan fled the scene after shots were fired, the source said. Officers stopped a car matching that description as it returned to the scene in the 3300 block of South Damen Avenue, according to the source.

Two weapons — a semi-automatic gun and a revolver — were found in the car with expended shell casings.

The driver of the Nissan, 27, told police a man walked up to his car in the parking lot and tried to rob him at gunpoint. He said he fired his gun — the semi-automatic — after a struggle in the car.

He said he was returning to the scene to talk with officers. The man was taken into custody.

Robert Westerhausen said he just finished buying pizza rolls for his kids when he walked out of the Target and saw officers investigating the shooting.

Officers shined flashlights into a black Dodge Charger while patrons navigated around yellow and red police tape wrapped around lamp poles and shopping carts.

“I’ve lived here for 40 years, and every year it gets a little bit worse,” Westerhausen said.

He said he saw police stop the silver Nissan and pull someone out less than a block away. Police SUVs surrounded the car.
