ST. LOUIS –
A would-be robber was killed in a shootout Sunday afternoon after his chosen victim was able to retrieve his own gun.
Both were injured in the shootout after the robber, 26, forced his intended victim, 74, into the older man’s home in the 900 block of Switzer Avenue at gunpoint, police said. The robber was hit in the side. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified Monday as Freddric Smith, of the 2600 block of Burd Avenue.
The victim of the robbery was hit in the neck, police said. He was taken to a hospital and was said to be stable. His condition was not available. A 74-year-old woman inside the home was not injured.
It began about 4:30 p.m. when the victim was approached in his backyard by Smith, police said. He pulled out a gun, forced the older man into his home and demanded his property, police said.
Inside the home, the victim was able to grab his own gun and they exchanged fire.

He’s “Stable.” He was shot in the neck I think. I pray as well that he recovers 100%.
